New Zealand's Luke Jacobson ruled out of Rugby World Cup with concussion
New Zealand forward Luke Jacobson was ruled out of the World Cup in Japan.
Even the 22-year-old won his second All Blacks cover in past weekend crushing of Tonga and went to Japan with the group, but developed symptoms after their first training session.
Jacobson was replaced with the Highlanders' Shannon Frizell.
"After discussing this latest episode with Luke, as well as our medical team, the conclusion was made to, sadly, withdraw him from the championship," explained New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen.
"We all felt the ideal thing for him to do is to take a break from rugby until he's symptom-free.
"Though it was a difficult conversation to own, but ultimately it was a really easy choice. Luke's health is the most important thing over anything else"
Jacobson had been among the type players of New Zealand in Super Rugby but that he did not appear again due to concussion symptoms, once he made his debut against the Pumas.
The former New Zealand U20 captain, who told media last month that his symptoms were supporting him, said he had been"gutted" to be overlooking the World Cup.
"While I am feeling 98 percent alright, I understand I'm still not really right," said Jacobson. "By taking a rest now, I will give myself the chance to continue my profession in the future."
Jacobson returned to rugby in March and fought concussion in 2018.
He stated in April he had headaches for"four or five weeks" last year.
Frizell was at the first 39-man squad selected by Hansen while he played with in July and since he narrowed his selections for the tournament he was not included for two games against Australia.
The 25-year-old had been enjoying at New Zealand's provincial competition, emerging as a lock, No 8 and flanker.
Hansen added that Vaea Fifita and Dalton Papalii, who dropped out from World Cup in the season, weren't considered because of injury.
