The Crazy Story Behind the $1.19M Tiger Wager: Winning Bettor Says It Was His First Sports Bet | The Action Network
James Adducci, a 39-year-old out of Wisconsin, is the guy who shot William Hill's sportsbook for $1.19 million after Tiger Woods won the 2019 Masters.
Adducci told The Action Network's Darren Rovell he was 25,000 in debt just months before and financed the wager, in part, by promoting some Amazon stock.
Adducci said that he did not hedge and it was his first sports wager.
It arrived in March to James Adducci out of nowhere.
Tiger Woods was going to win the Masters.
What follows is a story comeback. No, it is even crazier. It doesn't even seem possible.
You see, William Hill has been paying out $1.19 million on Monday, the most the bookmaker's U.S. division has ever paid out on a single golf bet.
And it's paying it out into the 39-year-old Adducci, who says this was his first sports bet. He explained the only other wager he had placed in his life had been with the now defunct site Tradesports that Arnold Schwarzenegger would win the 2003 recall election for California governor. Yes, Adducci stated he won that bet.
Hree different large Las Vegas sportsbooks confirmed independently they don't have any listing of Adducci ever putting a sports bet previously at their possessions.
Adducci stated he did not know how to place a wager and he surely did not have $85,000 on hand. Nevertheless last Tuesday afternoon, following the Wisconsin native shot a flight to Vegas, he walked up to the desk at the sportsbook in the SLS Casino in Vegas and asked whether he would get an $85,000 wager on Woods to win the Masters. (William Hill conducts the sportsbook at the SLS, among more than a hundred such locations for the company in Nevada.)
It had been the third sportsbook Adducci stated that afternoon he'd visited. One sportsbook said the maximum they would let him bet was $4,000. Another, the Westgate, place the maximum in $10,000. He passed on both provides, hoping to put the lump sum down at the same book.
